It’s playoff season!
As the PGA TOUR season draws to an end, the hunt for the FedExCup is in full effect. Competition is stiff between the world’s best as they face off in a series of four tournaments as part of the playoffs.
Beginning Aug. 27 at The Barclays, the top 125-ranked golfers in the FedExCup standings will compete. The next stop on the quest for the Cup is at TPC Boston on Sept. 4 at the Deutsche Bank Championship, which features the top 100. Following the DBC, the top 70 compete at the BMW Championship on Sept. 17. The finale takes place Sept. 24 at the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, where the top 30 qualifiers will face off for the 2014-15 FedExCup and join the exclusive list of winners, including past DBC champions Henrik Stenson, Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh.
As the playoff excitement mounts, here are a few notable players to watch out for as they prepare for the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Jordan Spieth
Through stellar performances all season long, the Texas native has earned himself the coveted title of the world’s No. 1, according to the Official World Golf Ranking. Sitting in first place in FedExCup points, Spieth will look to continue his tremendous efforts as the quest for the FedExCup begins.
Jason Day
After an emotional victory at the PGA Championship and several strong performances this season, Day is quickly becoming one of golf’s most popular players. Currently sitting in second place in the FedExCup Playoffs standings, Day is hoping to continue his new found success at The Barclays.
Justin Rose
The South Africa native has had a very strong 2015 season, with one victory as well as several top-four finishes. Currently sitting in fifth place in the FedExCup Playoffs standings, Rose is hungry for another victory to secure his position as one of the PGA TOUR’s best.
Rickie Fowler
Always a crowd favorite, Fowler struggled early in the season, but has shown promise recently. With a second-place finish at the Quicken Loans National, and a walk-off ace on the ninth hole during the first round, Fowler is determined to play well at the upcoming Barclays.
Phil Mickelson
The lefty has struggled a bit this season, sitting in 51st place in FedExCup Playoffs points. His best finish was at the Masters where he tied for second. However, Mickelson is always a contender; look for him to make a playoff push at The Barclays.
Bubba Watson
With a victory at the Travelers Championship, as well as a second-place finish at both the RBC Canadian Open and WGC-Bridgestone, Bubba has had a strong year. Currently holding down the third-place spot in FedExCup rankings, Watson will look to add to his season this weekend.
