DBC Rewind: Singh repeats success of four years ago at TPC

As the weather heats up for another New England summer, residents look forward to warmer weather, weekends at the Cape and the Deutsche Bank Championship. While the championship isn’t until Labor Day weekend, the anticipation is certainly mounting.

This week’s spotlight focuses on Vijay Singh and his 2008 DBC victory. Historically, Singh has fared extraordinarily well at the championship. When asked if he feels at home playing the TPC Boston course, Singh said, “I don’t know if I feel at home, but I just feel comfortable over here. I think I just play well over here, I don’t know why. I think the fans are great.”

With such great championship play by Singh, many of the other players took notice. Sergio Garcia said the following about Vijay’s performance: “To shoot 8-under today under these conditions, with the wind and as firm as the greens were, it’s just impressive, and that’s the only thing you can say.”

Singh compared this win to his 2004 victory against Tiger Woods.

“Four years ago was four years ago,” Singh said. “You know, this is now, and I just enjoyed the way I played. I think the golf course was playing a lot tougher today than I’ve ever seen it play. I don’t think this golf course could play any tougher. The greens were really, really firm. The pin placements were not easy at all. I think this golf course today played the hardest I’ve ever played this golf course. It makes it that much more better.”
