Make your voice heard by voting in the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge
Since its inception in 2003, the Deutsche Bank Championship has proudly supported the PGA TOUR’s legacy of charitable giving, with more than $26 million raised for the Tiger Woods Foundation and New England-area charities. Volunteers are an integral part of this success, helping the Deutsche Bank Championship make a tremendous difference in the community.
This year, fans can support these charitable efforts by participating in the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge, sponsored by Myrbetriq®, a new program that will be featured at the Deutsche Bank Championship and other tournaments on the PGA TOUR in 2015. The Deutsche Bank Championship, the second event of the FedExCup Playoffs, will be played Sept. 4-7 at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts.
From now until noon on Sunday, Sept. 6, fans are encouraged to visit PGATOUR.com/Volunteers and vote for their favorite Deutsche Bank Championship volunteer. At the end of the voting period, the volunteer with the most votes will have the chance to present a check from Astellas Pharma US, Inc. for $10,000 in his or her name to the Tiger Woods Foundation. The check presentation will take place during the Volunteer Party on Sunday in the Deutsche Bank Hospitality Pavilion.
Participating tournament volunteers also have an opportunity to win prizes based on the number of votes they collect. In addition, the tournament has the potential to raise up to an additional $30,000 in bonus funds based on the number of votes earned collectively by volunteers.
“The PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge is a great way to help generate funds for the Tiger Woods Foundation’s college-access programs, while at the same time recognizing the tournament volunteers who donate their time, passion and commitment to the Deutsche Bank Championship,” said Mike Antolini, vice president, championships for the Tiger Woods Foundation and championship director, Deutsche Bank Championship. “I hope all of our volunteers will participate and ask their friends, family members and co-workers to visit the website and vote.”
Among those participating in the Volunteer Challenge are Deborah and Colin Young, Bedford residents who met while volunteering at the fifth hole and will celebrate their first wedding anniversary just days after this year’s tournament ends. As volunteers, they help manage spectator movement on the fifth hole to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for fans and players.
“We volunteer for the tournament because it’s a great way to learn more about golf and a fun way to experience the tournament, and it’s rewarding to help make a difference to students served through the Tiger Woods Foundation,” Colin said.
