DBC Rewind: Singh captures No. 1 ranking in mind-blowing win

The 2004 Deutsche Bank Championship proved to be a monumental event for the year’s golf season and the record books. The final day came to a showdown between 41-year-old Vijay Singh and five-year reigning PGA Player of the Year Tiger Woods. 

Singh shot 2-under par to defeat Tiger and take home the Wedgwood Cup. This snapped Tiger’s 264-week streak as the top-ranked player of the world, and solidified Singh’s place as the oldest player to win consecutive money titles with a total of nine wins in 2004.

Singh had this to say regarding his remarkable day at the DBC and newfound golf ranking: “It was a goal from the beginning of the year. … My goal was to come over here and win the golf tournament. This is the Deutsche Bank event, and that was my goal, to win the title.” 

Singh said, “I’m the Deutsche Bank champion, and I’m really proud to be that. I’m really happy I won the golf tournament.”
