DBC Rewind: Scott gets first taste of TOUR victory

In 2003, the Deutsche Bank Championship, contested at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts, brought a premier PGA TOUR event to New England. Competition was stiff as the world’s top golfers faced off for the coveted Wedgwood Trophy, and crowds were out in full force over the weekend to get a glimpse of the action.

Adam Scott had this to say about the atmosphere of the championship: “I definitely feel the difference in pressure out on the course over here. I think just the crowd does it. Obviously, they are very boisterous over here. You know, they make it into quite an event.”

Ultimately, Scott was able to edge out Rocco Mediate to win his first PGA TOUR event in the United States. When asked about how this victory ranked compared to others, Scott confessed, “I think winning for the first time as a professional is always going to be my most memorable win, but this probably beats all the others.”

With the combination of the 100 most elite golfers and a family friendly, fun spectator environment, it’s clear that the Deutsche Bank Championship solidified its place as golf’s premier championship for the 2003 Labor Day weekend.
